#8 Rajasthan Royals

Batsman: Jos Buttler (wk), Steve Smith, Sanju Samson (wk), Manan Vohra, Robin Uthappa, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Anuj Rawat (wk), David Miller

All-rounders: Ben Stokes, Mahipal Lomror, Shashank Singh, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia

Spinners: Shreyas Gopal, Mayank Markande, Anirudha Joshi

Fast bowlers: Jofra Archer, Ankit Rajpoot, Varun Aaron, Jaydev Unadkat, Akash Singh, Kartik Tyagi, Oshane Thomas, Tom Curran, Andrew Tye

Rajasthan Royals were looking to fill in the void that was created by the departure of Ajinkya Rahane. They have brought in the experience of Robin Uthappa and the exuberance of Yashasvi Jaiswal to revive their top-order.

However, their side still remains over-dependent on the overseas players. While the likes of Buttler, Smith, and Stokes can provide the firepower, they will need support from the local players. Indian players like Shreyas Gopal, Riyan Parag, Mayank Markande will need to step up for Rajasthan Royals to do well in the tournament.

Their bowling looks thin and can affect their chances in crucial games. After a poor show last year, the inclusion of fresh faces was expected in the pace department. However, the team management reinstated their faith in Jaydev Unadkat and Oshane Thomas.

They did rope in Tom Curran and Andrew Tye, but it will be difficult to see them making it into the playing XI considering the overseas star-power. The Royals will have to play out of their skins to progress to the play-offs.

#7 Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Batsmen: David Warner, Kane Williamson, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Manish Pandey, Sreevats Goswami (wk), Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Virat Singh, Priyam Garg, Sanjay Yadav

All-rounders: Mohammad Nabi, Abhishek Sharma, Mitchell Marsh, Sandeep Bavanaka, Abdul Samad, Vijay Shankar, Fabian Allen

Spinners: Rashid Khan, Shahbaz Nadeem

Fast bowlers: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed, Sandeep Sharma, Basil Thampi, T. Natarajan, Billy Stanlake

Even though Sunrisers Hyderabad made it to the playoffs last season, they were nowhere near their best. The team looks batting heavy with stalwarts like Warner, Bairstow, and Williamson forming the top three, but does not offer much after that. Their middle-order was a merry-go-round last season. They have tried to bring in some fresh faces to change things around this season.

However, they haven’t really addressed their bowling issues. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has struggled with his fitness while Siddharth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed and Sandeep Sharma haven’t performed consistently. Sunrisers’ blunt pace-attack might hurt them in IPL 2020.

#6 Kings XI Punjab

Batsmen: KL Rahul (wk), Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, Mandeep Singh, Prabhsimran Singh (wk), Nicholas Pooran (wk), Sarfaraz Khan

All-rounders: Glenn Maxwell, Deepak Hooda, James Neesham, K. Gowtham, Darshan Nalkande

Spinners: Murugan Ashwin, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, J. Suchith, Harpreet Brar, Ravi Bishnoi, Tajinder Dhillon

Fast bowlers: Mohammed Shami, Hardus Viljoen, Arshdeep Singh, Sheldon Cottrell, Ishan Porel, Chris Jordan

Kings XI Punjab has done reasonably well in forming a strong side for IPL 2020. The Kings got the impact player they needed in Glenn Maxwell to bolster their middle-order. With the likes of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell, KXIP batting line-up looks one of the most destructive.

Sheldon Cottrell and Ishan Porel along with Mohammad Shami form a decent pace-attack. They also recruited some strong back-up players in James Neesham and Chris Jordan. The only matter of concern for the Kings will be the lack of quality spin bowlers in their squad.

#5 Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Batsmen: Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Devdutt Padikkal, Parthiv Patel (wk), Aaron Finch, Joshua Philippe (wk), Shahbaz Ahmad (wk), Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Pavan Deshpande

All-rounders: Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Chris Morris, Isuru Udana

Spinners: Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, Pawan Negi

Fast bowlers: Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Siraj, Kane Richardson, Dale Steyn

Royal Challengers Bangalore would like to believe that they have managed to assemble a side that will give the other teams a run for their money. In Aaron Finch, Chris Morris and Dale Steyn, RCB has roped in proven match-winners. This IPL side already has the firepower of Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers.

If they can gel well as a team, there can be a huge turnaround in their performance this year. While they do have proven overseas players, their chances will hinge heavily on the performance of Indian players like Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Umesh Yadav, and Navdeep Saini. Expect RCB to fare better this season.

#4 Kolkata Knight Riders

Batsmen: Shubman Gill, Siddesh Lad, Rahul Tripathi, Tom Banton (wk), Nikhil Naik, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Rinku Singh, Eoin Morgan

All-rounders: Andre Russell, Nitish Rana, Chris Green, Sunil Narine

Spinners: Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, M Siddharth, Pravin Tambe

Fast bowlers: Harry Gurney, Lockie Ferguson, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi, Prasidh Krishna, Sandeep Warrier, Pat Cummins

Owing to their poor performance last season, it was imperative for KKR to make mass changes to their squad. And they did that by releasing the likes of Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn, and Piyush Chawla and dishing out big bucks in getting the services of Pat Cummins, Eoin Morgan, and Varun Chakravarthy.

KKR bought Pat Cummins for a whopping 15.5 crores. While Cummins has been in the form of his life, it will be interesting to see whether he can transform that in the IPL. Also, he has been injury-prone throughout his career. KKR’s batting will need to step up big time to change things around for them in the upcoming season.

#3 Chennai Super Kings

Batsmen: Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, N Jagadeesan (wk), M Vijay, Ruturaj Gaikwad, MS Dhoni (c & wk)

All-rounders: Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Kedar Jadhav, Mitchell Santner, Monu Singh, Sam Curran

Spinners: Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, Piyush Chawla, Ravi Sai Kishore

Fast bowlers: Lungi Ngidi, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, KM Asif, Josh Hazlewood

There was a lot of buzz about Chennai Super Kings needing fresh legs in their squad after their defeat in the final last season. However, the franchise resisted any such temptations and did not make any big changes in the squad. But the inclusion of Sam Curran, Piyush Chawla, and Josh Hazlewood will surely provide more options to Dhoni.

CSK has always relied on the star-power and experience but if we look at their side, especially the batting line-up, there are a lot of aging stars whose performances cannot be guaranteed. The 3-times champions will have their task cut out in IPL 2020.

#2 Delhi Capitals

Batsmen: Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Jason Roy, Rishabh Pant (wk), Alex Carey (wk), Shimron Hetmyer

All-rounders: Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, Chris Woakes, Marcus Stoinis, Keemo Paul, Lalit Yadav

Spinners: R Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Sandeep Lamichhane

Fast Bowlers: Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma, Avesh Khan, Mohit Sharma, Tushar Deshpande

Delhi Capitals seemed to have ticked every box at the auction. Delhi did exceedingly well in IPL 2019 by reaching the play-offs with a young side. However, the lack of experience did cost them a couple of matches and it was perhaps the reason why they traded in Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Talking about the auction, the Capitals further strengthened their batting unit by buying Shimron Hetmyer and Jason Roy. They also made sure that they have enough all-round options by getting in Chris Woakes and Marcus Stoinis.

Delhi Capitals will start the tournament as one of the favourites.

#1 Mumbai Indians

Batsmen: Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Quinton de Kock (wk), Aditya Tare (wk), Anmolpreet Singh, Chris Lynn, Ishan Kishan, Sherfane Rutherford, Saurabh Tiwary

All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Prince Balwant Rai

Spinners: Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav, Anukul Roy

Fast bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, Trent Boult, Dhawal Kulkarni, Mitchell McClenaghan, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Mohsin Khan, Digvijay Deshmukh

Despite winning the title last season, Mumbai Indians have been quite proactive about the squad formation for the next season. After getting a couple of players through trade window, the defending champions left no stone unturned to cover every base by acquiring some crucial players at the auction.

After snapping Chris Lynn in the early stages of the auction, they bid aggressively for Nathan Coulter-Nile. Now with Trent Boult and Nathan Coulter-Nile in the side, they have one of the most potent pace-attack amongst all teams. With a well-balanced squad at disposal, Mumbai Indians will look to add to their tally of 4 IPL titles in 2020.
